My name is Dan, I’m a Senior Software Engineer and Full Stack WordPress Developer with WP Updoot. In this video we’re going through how to change the URL the slug or the permalink of a post or page on your WordPress website.
As you can see we’re back in the example site I’m on the page that I’d like to edit and I’m logged in; now if you’re not logged in that’s okay there’s a link above, which will take you through how to do that.
So from the page that you’d like to edit, click on the Edit Post that will take you through to the post area; and then make sure that this block on the right hand side is available. If you can’t see that just click on the little cog up there.
We want to be on the Post tab not the Block but on the Post. Scroll down to permalink and you can see there that matches the slug that we had on the front end and this slug is ridiculous so we’re going to shorten this down a little bit. You can either just copy that wholus bolus; so copy and paste straight in and WordPress will correct it; which is to say make it lower case, swap all of the spaces over all that kind of gear; or you can just edit it here.
So we’re just going to make this one kisque nom now this is just gibberish used in print for example text, but that’s ready to go and you can see that instantly changes that down here, so we’re good to go there.
Once you’re happy with the URL, you’re going to be using or the slug you’re going to be using click on the update button that’s done you’ll get the little post updated.
You can click the view post and as you can see that URL has been shortened down. It’s a lot easier to work with and a bit easier to remember.
